| Soilwork - Sworn to a Great Divide Music Review By RipperEagle Rating: 4.6
Hailing from Sweden, Soilwork is a sextet who have been stalwarts on heavy metal label Nuclear Blast for quite some time. But around the time of their 5th release, “Stabbing the Drama”, the band tried to incorporate more symphonic elements and industrial sounds in with their bone crunching “Scandinavian Metal” template. Their 6th release by the aforementioned name was released in 2007 as two versions: standard CD with 11 tracks and another with a bonus 12th track and a DVD. How does it stack up when all is said and done? Let’s find out, shall we?
1. Sworn to a Great Divide (5) -Forget melody, this song is out to kill you! Definitely old Soilwork here. 2. Exile (5) -This might be as close as you are going to find a radio friendly single on here. 3. Breeding Thorns (5) -A great piece which sees singer Bjorn Strid stretching to all octaves. 4. Your Beloved Scapegoat (5) -Solid symphonic lead in, until Bjorn starts screaming everywhere. 5. The Pittsburgh Syndrome (4) -Weird title but very much in your face: extremely absurd lyrics and shortest song. 6. I, Vermin (5) -Solid song structure, very similar to “Stabbing the Drama.” 7. Light Discovering Darkness (4) -Fear Factory like intro, very symphonic during the verses. 8. As the Sleeper Awakes (5) -Very straight forward from out of the gates: no gimmicks found here. 9. Silent Bullet (4) -Sounds more like God Forbid, but that is certainly not a bad thing. 10. Sick Heart River (4) -Bass lead in for seven seconds doesn’t last long: up and down throughout. 11. 20 More Miles (5) -An intriguing piece to end the standard CD version on. 12. Martyr (N/A)* -Not all versions had this so it won’t count: good thing, because it is VERY weak.
Opinions and comments welcome, naturally!

| Any of the first four will do. I just picked this up on Thursday and I can't stop listening to the four top ones, and I think I listened to "Exile" like ten straight times. | |
