HOUSTON—Harris County officials continue to discuss whether they should pursue plans to convert the Astrodome, once known as the Eighth Wonder of the World, into a hotel.

According to a report by a consulting firm hired by a company looking to transform the first domed stadium into a 1,300-room convention hotel, the facility could net nearly $50 million annually four years after opening.

A consulting firm hired by the county, Convention Sports & Leisure, found the study conformed with analyses of financial prospects for large hotels.

sounds like a cool and unique idea and it keeps the historical monument up and functional

It would be cool to keep the Dome around but here's the snag. The Texans and the Houston Livestock show and Rodeo (don't laugh, it's a really big deal here) can't have the space for parking taken up for any reason during times when Reliant Park is being used for their events. (Texan games and Rodeo events and concerts). Maybe they'll reach some sort of compromise, but I doubt it. There was talk of making it a casino, but that was shot down for the same reason. You can't tell people that they can't stay at a hotel or go to the casino except for certain times.........

I didn't laugh....I watch Rodeos on ESPN from time to time...

I would think they need to turn it into something though...I mean, what are they using it for now? Nothing right? That building is historic...they really gotta try their best to make it useful somehow so they don't end up tearing it down or something shitty like that.
