God Forbid - IV: Constitution of Treason Music Review
By RipperEagle
Rating: 4.8

Getting out of the way that I am, above all else, probably a bigger God Forbid fan then a fan of any other true metal band, this review will try to be unbiased. That said, this is the third major label release for the band on Century Media, and their first concept album. The CD is divided into three “articles”, the first being “The Twilight of Civilization”, the second being, “In the Darkest Hour, There Was One”, and the third being, “Devolution” with each song representing a “section” of the constitution, ten in total. Basically, it is the bands take on a futuristic situation where war wipes out a majority of the world and very few people survive, creating the maniacal “Apocalypse” that they speak of from track eight on. The storytelling through lyrics from singer Byron Davis and guitarist Dallas Coyle is compelling.

1. The End of the World (5)
-Build up intro which unleashes hell at the 1:13 mark: great start to the CD.
2. Chains of Humanity (5)
-Stellar brutality wrapped into four minutes: great guitar work from 1:30 to 1:56.
3. Into the Wasteland (5)
-Repeat and wash from the above entry.
4. The Lonely Dead (5)
-First song with substance: features a great lead in and piano ending from “Dad Forbid,” the father of guitarists Doc and Dallas Coyle.
5. Divinity (4)
-In the middle it breaks down, and it provides a sonic backdrop for the ending.
6. Under This Flag (4)
-Good stuff, but I wish they would stop saying motherfucker so much, because in all honesty the tracks are brilliant as is without stupid words.
7. To the Fallen Hero (5)
-Absolute FAVORITE song on the album: would rate 10 if I could!
8. Welcome to the Apocalypse (5)
-An odd acoustic/piano piece with static outro. Still good for a change of pace: it takes Byron out of the equation with Dallas singing instead.
9. Constitution of Treason (5)
-Great introduction, and stellar trade off guitar work.
10. Crucify Your Beliefs (5)
-40 second acoustic intro wouldn’t last forever: awesome track to end on.

Thoughts are welcome!
