| Fear Factory - Obsolete Music Review By RipperEagle Rating: 4.2
One of the originators of “Industrial Metal”, Fear Factory entered the scene in 1992 and rose to the top with “Remanufacture”. The height of their success however was a ten song release in 1998 called “Obsolete” which was their 4th for Roadrunner Records, their former label. In 1999, the label re-released the CD with five bonus tracks on it, and that will be the one for review today.
1. Shock (5) -Best song on the album in my opinion: meshes their metal and industrial well. 2. Edgecrusher (5) -Features turntable work from DJ Zodiac: great song. 3. Smasher/Devourer (4) -Prepare for…Salvation! 4. Securitron “Police State 2000” (5) -Odd intro with police radios, sirens, and machine beat drums. 5. Descent (5) -Great song without a lot of the gimmicks used in other ones. 6. Hi-Tech Hate (4) -Takes a while to get started, but good when it does. 7. Freedom or Fire (4) -Well, what do you want then? Freedom or fire damn it! 8. Obsolete (3) -Very odd intro with the robot voice, but song is pretty solid. 9. Resurrection (4) -Longest song on the album (6:36): stop and go at will, and up and down. 10. Timelessness (3) -Doesn’t belong with the rest of the songs: just Burton Bell singing over Sound FX. 11. Cars* (4) -Faithful cover of an old song. 12. 0-0 “Where Evil Dwells”* (5) -Brutal as shit: in fact, most of the final ones are. Bell sounds like “The Shredder”. 13. Soulwound* (4) -Not bad at all: slow lead in but eventually kicks your ass. 14. Messiah* (5) -They don’t say a lot, but that doesn’t ruin the musicianship one bit. 15. Concreto* (4) -Rather blunt and hard hitting.
*Bonus tracks on the 1999 re-release

| Wait wait wait...THEY opened for Slipknot? Really?
Huh, this must have been after they left Roadrunner Records and lost Dino Czares. Ain't no way they should be opening for anyone, unless it is Sepultura, or some group older then they.
