| Tinted Windows Self Titled Music Review By the RipperEagle Album Rating: 4.3
The names and faces behind the “Supergroup” known as Tinted Windows, an obscure group name in it’s self, are easily identified. It places former pop music and boy band icon of Hanson fame Taylor Hanson as the lead singer, and Fountains of Wayne bass player Adam Schlesinger at the forefront. Together, they enlisted Ex-Smashing Pumpkins and A Perfect Circle guitarist James Iha into the band, and the three of them sent demos to Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, who finalized the band known as Tinted Windows. Together, the four of them boast 78 years of musical achievements to their name, yet the band sounds like nothing previously done (or in the case of Schlesinger and Carlos, still does). Released on April 21st, the album is a light rock affair at eight seconds short of 36 minutes in length.
1. Kind of a Girl (5) -Great single ready for radio play: it’s worth noting that, Hanson actually sounds far away from his pop singing days, and channels Robin Zander, more so. 2. Messing With My Head (5) -Central theme of the album for the most part: girls and whatever goes with it. 3. Dead Serious (3) -Song’s closer to a slow dance special, but fails to find a niche and stay there. 4. Can’t Get a Read on You (5) -A hedge under three minutes, another upbeat rock song, like the first two. 5. Back With You (4) -Another slow to mid tempo love song. 6. Without Love (4) -Song sits perfectly in mid tempo through out. 7. Cha Cha (5) -First song NOT to deal with girls: shortest song at 2:24. 8. We Got Something (5) -Short 2:34 song, quick as a dart but another upbeat rocker. 9. Nothing to Me (4) -This is VERY close to being a Cheap Trick song: Iha even plays like Rick Neilson. 10. Doncha Wanna (4) -Not a bad song, but I’ve got “Downed” by Cheap Trick playing alongside this one. 11. Take Me Back (4) -Pretty solid closing song, take the par of everything song sans “Cha Cha”.
