Avenged Sevenfold - Avenged Sevenfold Music Review By RipperEagle Rating: 4
To experiment is to alter or tweak, but to alter or tweak does not constitute “selling out.” For their third major label affair released in December of 2007, Avenged Sevenfold decided to throw out many different things: country slide guitars, organs, a church choir featuring a young girl out front singing, and mixing vocals as if to make Matt Shadows sound like he was Cher (strange to explain, must hear). At the base of it all, their self titled effort is basically what it always has been, except with more makeup, mascara, and bows and ribbons to appeal to the masses.
1. Critical Acclaim (5) -Organ intro leads into song that appeared to miss “City of Evil”. 2. Almost Easy (5) -First big radio hit and features swift solo in middle by Synester Gates. 3. Scream (4) -Good song which features guitar work from Zachy Vengeance and Gates which sounds as if they hum like motorcycles. 4. Afterlife (4) -Another big single, sounds like “Perry Mason” starting intro. 5. Gunslinger (5) -A heartfelt tribute/dedication song to the troops: first half is acoustic piece. 6. Unbound “The Wild Ride” (3) -I would give it a 4 for the first 75% of the song, but at the end is when the chorus kicks in, and then the girl singing to end it on that note. 7. Brompton Cocktail (4) -Not bad: a song that is often overlooked due to other songs have more effects. 8. Lost (4) -This is where Shadows sounds as if he was Cher: listen to the chorus. 9. A Little Piece of Heaven (3) -Fun song, longest on album, but sounds like a Mr. Bungle cast-off. 10. Dear God (3) -Country Sevenfold in the house!

I like all the stuff. I kinda can see where someone would say they sold out, listening to Waken the Falling, then City of Evil, and now this one. BUT, it's all good fucking music, so who gives a fuck eh? FUCK THE CRITICS!

A critic is simply someone who can't do what you can so they hate on you for it...

Yep. And furthermore, they don't understand experimenting is quite normal. Some bands don't want to crank out the same shit every album. They all aren't Slayer you know?

Yeah, Death Magnetic, sounded to me like it should have been the transition album between And Justice For All and the Black Album.

I know. I was lost after the Black Album: load and reload were crap, from them anyway.
