Chimaira The Infection Music Review By the RipperEagle Album Rating: 4.7
On March 24th, Chimaira released their fifth album, and second on their newest label Ferret Records, with “The Infection”. The original lineup is in tact for the second straight album, with original drummer Andols Herrick back in the fold for “Resurrection” their debut on Ferret in 2007. The Ohio based sextet change little if anything about their sound, which will please their fans and fans of the metal genre as a whole, but as they say, if it ain’t broke, then why fix it? And at ten songs in length, the album doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.
1. The Venom Inside (5) -Gets the five just for the epic minute long introduction, then becomes per the norm. 2. Frozen In Time (5) -Drum heavy short intro gives way to standard Chimaira fair. 3. Coming Alive (4) -Shortest song @ 3:03: Mark Hunter sounds more vicious then usual. 4. Secrets of the Dead (5) -Nice breakdown @ 2:20, and final 1:15 of the song is a stellar and eerie outro. 5. The Disappearing Sun (5) -Interesting lyrics: great work between Rob Arnold and Matt Devries on guitars. 6. Impending Doom (4) -Very odd song, as Hunter mutters the chorus over a haunting backdrop, while the song picks up on verses: song is second longest @ 6:05. 7. On Broken Glass (5) -Standard Chimaira fare here. 8. Destroy and Dominate (5) -Great intro starts hard, then slows down: great song overall. 9. Try to Survive (5) -Another great, close to five minute song with some personable lyrics. 10. The Heart of it All (4) -Unlike ANYTHING the band has ever done: song is 14:51 and goes through phases like a Mastodon, Pink Floyd, or a “Soulfly” series song.
Thoughts and comments are always welcome!

That last song, either you love it or hate it. There's no middle ground.
