Devildriver - The Last Kind Words Music Review By RipperEagle Rating: 4.7
Devildriver started out with former lead singer of Coal Chamber Dez Fafara building a new band around him, and the result was nothing like Coal Chamber. The alt rock sound was gone for pure brutal ass metal, which is the synopsis of their 2007 released “The Last Kind Words”. Their third release for Roadrunner Records, the band sounds even stronger then they did on their previous efforts.
1. Not All Who Wonder Are Lost (5) -Attacks straight out of the box: little change in variation, just wants to punch you. 2. Clouds Over California (5) -Odd title and some very odd lyrics, but who cares about that? 3. Bound by the Moon (5) -Devildriver are nothing without epic lead ins to their songs, this one is damn good. 4. Horn of Betrayal (5) -Great song: gets even better after the three minute mark. 5. These Fighting Words (4) -A good song, but not as strong as the four above it. 6. Head on to Heartache “Let Them Rot” (5) -Outstanding song, perhaps best on the album in my opinion. 7. Burning Sermon (5) -Great lead in for 30 seconds, song delivers just as well. 8. Monsters of the Deep (5) -Another incredible lead in, about 40 seconds and another great song. 9. Tirades of Truth (5) -Well, they actually experiment with a piano to start: well shock me shit less! 10. When Summoned (4) -Shortest song on here (3:05) but delivers a wallop in allotted time. 11. And the Axe Shall Fall (4) -A very interesting song which end with a near minute and a half of organ music.
