Hoobastank - For(n)ever Music Review By RipperEagle Rating: 4.5
Released on January 27th, 2009, Hoobastank took their sound back to their roots on their 4th major label album, all with Island Records. Whereas their 2006 effort, “Every Man for Himself” was more experimental and sounded like a collection of career swan songs (they did lose their bass player, but still), “For(n)ever” is a harkening back their 2001 debut. The songs, generally speaking, are more straight forward rocking with a few minor exceptions, and the lyrics and content hardly change: most of the songs find singer Doug Robb crooning over women.
1. My Turn (5) -Sure to be the first single: comes out and attacks like anything on their debut did. 2. I Don’t Think I love You (5) -Intro guitar riff hooks you into the song: slow-fast tempo works well here. 3. So Close, So Far (4) -Sounds like “If I were You” but with more guts then that song had. 4. All About You (5) -Only song under three minutes: funky 35 second intro gives way to fast tempo. 5. The Letter (5) -Very compelling song which sounds pretty good in second gear. 6. Tears of Yesterday (4) -The only song with a string arrangement: that about seven less then last time! 7. Sick of Hanging On (5) -Intro is very similar to that of “Rouges and Evolution” by Incubus. 8. You’re The One (4) -Starts off slow but picks up towards the middle. 9. Who The Hell Am I (5) -Second strongest rocker on the album aside from track one: longest song on CD. 10. You Need to Be Here (3) -Sounds like a B-Side from “Every Man”: not good, but not bad. 11. Gone Gone Gone (5) -Wow, Robb gets vulgar! Solid song to end a good CD on.

I like the first track. Reminds me of somebody from the 80's...just can't figure out who...
